National Read a Book Day at Historic James Monroe Birthplace and Boyhood Home

Join us for a special community event at the James Monroe Birthplace and Boyhood Home celebrating National
Read a Book Day on September 6th from 11:00 AM–4:00 PM. This program is designed to celebrate
literature set locally and local authors.

The event will highlight the rich talents grown in Virginia by showcasing authors, storytellers, and
organizations that promote reading, writing, and literary engagement. We hope to create a
welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that connects our community with the people and stories that
shape it.

Are you a local author who’d like to participate? Reach out to Dr. Theresa Snell at reese.m.snell@gmail.com

We would love for your organization  to participate in one or more of the following ways:
• Hosting a table to share information about your work
• Featuring local authors for book signings or readings
• Leading a short interactive activity for children and families
• Offering resources that encourage literacy and community engagement

This event will be held outdoors on the historic grounds, and we anticipate a strong turnout of
families and community members. There is no cost to participate, and we are
happy to collaborate to make your involvement meaningful and engaging.

If you are interested, please let us know by August 6, 2026 and feel free to share any ideas you may
have. We would be delighted to partner with you in making this a memorable celebration of reading
and local talent. Thank you for considering this opportunity. I look forward to hearing from you.
